this word can be found in Daniel 2, 4 and has been translated by "the Aramaic language", yet, in the Peshitta it is written ܐܲܪܡܵܝܬ, to be compared with ܐܲܪܡܵܝܬܵܐ : pagan, non-Jewess, heathen, barbarian, idolatrous. This has given rise to a lot of confusion. The English Authorized Version (1611) has translated it by "Syriac" .
