this name of a month of Kurdish origin, see ܬܵܡܘܿܙ / ܐܲܒ / ܐܵܒ݂ ; actually the Kurdish calendar was luno-solar such as the Assyrian-Babylonian one ; today it has become solar and related to the Iranian calendar. According to some, this name is derived from the Syriac root ܛܵܒ݂ܸܚ (to beat) and was given to the month when Nineveh fell.
